Last night when I got home from work, we loaded ourselves into the car for a quick trip to Lowes and Haggen. Daisy was pretty unhappy about all of this so I was doing my best to keep her from throwing a major fit in the grocery store aisles. At one point I picked up two boxes of Decaf Earl Grey tea and shook them near her. This instantly grabbed her attention and she was hooked. So I did it again. This time she laughed, and laughed, and laughed.
So if you happened to be at Haggen last night, you would have seen this crazy mother dancing down the aisles shaking tea boxes, enjoying the sweetest sound on earth. Yup, it's official. I'll make a complete fool of myself to hear this kid laugh.
Of course, she was the one laughing about tea boxes shaking. So what does that say about her?
For those of you interested in purchasing Christmas gifts for Daisy, here are some suggestions. (Not because she needs anything, I'm just trying to be helpful.)
BOOKS!!!
I heard about this book on NPR and it sounded delightful and fun.
She's really into texture books, touch books, like this cute one.
Board or fabric books are perfect right now. I've also seen these cool books that have ribbon trims that I know she'd like.
VIDEOS
We checked out the water Einstein DVD from the library and Daisy loved it. I'm sure she'd love some of her own!
Daisy loves the Praise Baby CDs we have, they are like magic when she's fussy in the car. I'm sure she'd love the DVDs too.
CLOTHES
She's wearing size 6-9 months right now, so if the clothing is for "winter" buy that size. Summer stuff should be about 12 months.
LOVE this cute line from Old Navy. I can't resist the penguins!
And Target comes through again with these adorable penguin shoes!
We don't really have a winter coat for her, so that would be a good purchase. Hats and gloves are wonderful too! (We do have a snowsuit though.)
TOYS
Please be careful when purchasing toys, anything that is painted and made in China could contain lead.
Daisy is putting everything in her mouth, so soft, chewy, fun toys are perfect right now.
If you haven't checked them out yet, etsy is an awesome site to purchase handmade toys.
She loves to be surprised, so I've got a hunch that a Jack-In-The-Box would be a big hit.
She'd probably love some sort of exersaucer, but I'm not convinced we could fit one more "large" toy in our house!
PRACTICAL
sippy cups
diapers size 2 & 3
plastic bibs
baby-proofing supplies (especially a toilet seat lock and cupboard locks)
And, of course, since this Christmas she won't remember much and doesn't really need much, we think investing a monetary gift would be very practical. That's our plan for her!
THE END
Thanks in advance to all of you who are so very generous. I can't wait to celebrate this holiday with you!
At our thanksgiving table every year, the tradition is to share what you are thankful for. From youngest to oldest we share our thanks for family, friends, health, good food, our country, etc. At breakfast Darin asked me what I was planning to share that afternoon. "There are just too many things to be thankful for," I told him.
"Well," he replied, "how about sharing what you aren't thankful for?"
That's pretty hard to do, you know. My list, before it got too depressing, looked like this:
But honestly, there is much to be thankful for. Here's the list I shared at dinner:
What are you thankful for? Post it here or on your own blog.
"Give thanks to the Lord in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Who lives in Missouri, got a hand-me-down computer, and now has internet access all so she can check in on her great-grandbaby. Sometimes technology is a pretty sweet thing.
Daisy's got lots of stories for you today:
And a few more after that (these ones may have some potty humor, so beware!). (Oh, and ignore the socks in the background please.)
Are any of you planning to hit the shops next Friday and score some deals? I'm not, that's for sure. There's nothing I need that badly that I'm willing to brave the crowds.
But if you are crazy, here's a cool link where someone has scoured the ads and put together a spreadsheet with every deal. It's pretty amazing.
On Saturday Daisy had her first taste of "solid" food. I'm not quite sure why they call it solid, because the consistency was definitely liquid. She enjoyed it immensly and was already trying to grab for the spoon.
And for those of you about to view the video below, let me warn you of two things:
1. This silly mama forgot you can't video virtically, so you'll have to tilt your head to get a good look.
2. Miss Daisy already gets a little distracted when the camera comes out. So it's a little slow at first, but the ending is definitely worth the wait!
