Contest! Contest! Contest!
Packing day is Friday. Moving day is Saturday. I'll try to post one more time before the computer is packed away, but I can't guarantee anything. And since we haven't even called on getting internet in our new house yet, I have no idea when we'll be back up and running again. (I'm hoping I can sneak into Darin's office for even a quick "hello" but they've got strict internet usage policies, so we'll see.)
So I thought this would be a perfect spot to introduce a little contest. Give you some time to ponder things through and really get the creative juices flowing.
This little orange blanket has been a wonderful addition to our home. It was purchased for us by a high-school friend when Daisy was born. Seeing it's small size and super-cozyness (silk on one side, soft on the other) I decided to tuck it away for a few months. A while ago we really noticed Miss Daisy wanting to tuck something into her hand when she sucked her thumb. So I thought it was the perfect time to bring out the blanket.
At naptime and bedtime I would give her that blanket as I tucked her in.
It didn't take long at all and that blanket became the cue for thumb in mouth, time to relax. She falls and bonks her head, hand over the blanket and cuddle for a minute. She's tired of being in her carseat, hand over the blanket and she snuggles right down. She's ready for bed, hand over the blanket and there's nary-a-tear. And no matter where she is in the crib when we sneak in before bed (she is all over that crib of hers), that darn thing is with her. It is really sweet!
I emailed my friend asking her if we could get 10 more of these blankets. I'm now afraid of losing it!
Anyway, back to the contest. This sweet little blanket needs a name. I hate the term "blankie" almost as much as I hate the term "binky" so that one's out. And I know long-term that Daisy gets to pick a name, but I would like to call this one something other than "Daisy's orange blanket."
So that's it folks. Post below your name ideas. I'll pick a winner by Mother's Day (that's May 11 in case you've forgotten) and announce it as soon as I can. I have a great prize for our winner too. A prize that Darin even contributed to, but he doesn't know it yet!
Looking forward to your ideas!

My Breonna always called her's her "lovey" and My Nathan calls his, his snuggly (he would DIE if he know I posted that! He will be 13 on Mother's Day!)

What about a "cuddly" or a "snuggly"?

Ok, I take back the "snuggly" (I should read more carefully). Can't be stealing others' suggestions. :)

Laura's son used to carry around his little blanket. He called it his "she-she". I'll think of some better ones soon. So far I like "lovey".

I forgot to say that "lovey" is out too, since that's a term of endearment the Altmiller twins brought into my life. I like the name, I just use it for people!

Hi... found your blog today - love your blog title!
If you don't like blankie (and I don't blame you), try to come up with something nonsensical (is that even a word?) like so-si (for soft/silky) or name it after something completely unrelatd but the same color like mango or carrot (that way the name isn't so cutesy - especially if she will be dragging this around at 3 years old).
My son has a blanket and a stuffed dog... the dog's name is cookie and the blanket's name is milk (although, he was older when we finally named them and he came up with the names).
Good luck!

why don't you just keep asking her who/what she wants when she's asking for the blanket...and when she utters anything that's repeatable, that can be the name! it may take several weeks for her to settle on something, but it's so much fun to see what comes out! in our house, we had a bgeepkee, a buddy, a banket and a bimmick, each one named by the little dear that loved it.
boy, that cookie/milk combo is ADORABLE!!

My kiddos and I vote for "oh-bee" (You know, "O.B." for "orange blanket")

OMG I can't believe I remember. I had a cloth diaper I called my num-num. Grandma Pauline always told the story about leaving your Dad & Uncle Guy in the car while her and G. Bill went in a tavern. Dick pulled her slip out of her bag and drug it into the tavern looking for them. She was sooo embarassed. I used to tease her about leaving us in the car at the tavern. I don't know about the boys, but they wouldn't even bring me out a pop. I can't believe how times have changed. Do you think Dick has a thing for slips anymore?

Thanks Jennifer... my little boy is so cute wandering the house looking for his milk and cookie (it cracks me up daily).
I just realized I missed the most obvious name (to go along with my mango/carrot suggestion), what about pumpkin?

Yes I remember my num-num. Have no idea of where the name came from but as Daisy has my middle name it should be called a num-num and I win the prize.
And yes I also remember the situation that Doll talked about and the tavern was on the way to Westport. I think it was Johns river lodge tavern. How is that for a memory.
Love,
Dad

I'm thinking of orange-like names, including: marmalade, orangie, squirt (it's small, orange, and somewhat citrus-y) little tiger, nemo, marigold..... maybe 'miss mari' because miss daisy has to collect flower blankets? fresh out of ideas...

My vote is to wait and let Daisy name it!
