Daisy's bathroom, aka Guest bathroom, aka Second Bathroom

Everytime I walk by this little room it makes me happy. How could it not? All those bright colors and fun stripes. Thanks to my favorite store, once again for providing just the right items to fit my vision.

Now for a coat of paint, and we'll be set!

grass!

IMG_0737

One of my very favorite things about summer is walking barefoot in lush grass. And we are fortunate enough in our new house to be surrounded by hills of the green goodness. (Of course, there are some big holes from the previous tennant's dog, but we're making it work.) On Sunday, after Daisy's nap, she and I headed outside to check the stuff out and keep Darin company as he washed the cars.

Luckily for me, she seems to like the grass just as much. And if you watch the video below you'll also see her working on her very first word! It may take her a bit to warm up, but she loves to wave and say "Hi" as she is doing here to her Papa. She doesn't need any prompting to say it and uses it in just the right contexts. In fact, the other day she was saying "Hi" to everyone we encountered in the grocery store, winning hearts right and left.

She's got your's too, doesn't she?

Question

Blog readers, I need your input.

Do you like the larger size photos as in the last few posts?

Or would you rather have smaller photos where you can click and get the full image as I used to do.

Let your opinion be known!

the earth is moving

Stacy Julian just shook my world a bit this morning with this thought:

My Thoughts:
The history of photography and the fact that it has been, up until a decade ago, primarily the privilege of very few, has created the perception that any and all pictures are priceless. This may sound bold, but this is no longer the case. Any commodity that is no longer scarce, loses its value over time. Now ... before you freak out and think "is she NUTS, my pictures are ALL priceless to me," hear me out.  A picture and the memory it represents become meaningful when you add thoughts and personal insights that give it context and significance in your life. Nobody, not even your own children really want to have a collection of thousands of pictures. What they want are a few highlights that help them recall and reflect and be grateful for childhood and life. They want to feel intimate with a scrapbook and know that you have lovingly selected from among the masses, a few pictures for them to keep and cherish.

Do me a favor and chew on this!

I'm definitely chewing...

the last of the boxes are unpacked!!!

coming soon...house tours!

gathering eggs

One of the benefits of living at a camp that is also a ranch: farm fresh eggs! I wanted to make banana bread this weekend but, oops, we were out of eggs. So instead of loading up the car and heading to the local market, we put on sunscreen and hats, loaded Daisy in the backpack, and walked down the hill.

This barn is called "Noah's landing" and is also the location of day camp. The chickens live outside and in the back stall.

Look, we've got some eggs!

See that hutch on the top left? Yeah, there was a hen hunkered down in there that I didn't see until we were eye-to-eye. I think I jumped a little. Darin laughed. So I made him take her egg.

Got it!

Let me tell you, those eggs are DEL-I-CIOUS. So yellow and bright.

Thanks Ladies!

a GREAT long weekend

Knowing it was our last chance to get some good family time before summer, we were hoping to get away this weekend. But, being the last-minute planners that we are, it didn't work out. Which ended up being okay, because we had a great weekend at home.

Friday

  • A walk after work to swing Daisy at the park
  • Meatloaf and baked potatoes with West Wing
  • In bed early

Saturday

  • sleeping in
  • a morning walk to see the animals and collect eggs
  • cleaning and unpacking
  • Gran & Aunt Dakota coming to visit!
  • a "date" in the car as we drive to Olympia to exchange mattresses
  • a quick stop at the mall and a new Ann Taylor loft tee (yea clearance!)
  • P.S. I love You and soaking my feet

Sunday

Monday

  • sleeping in
  • cleaning, hanging curtains, shredding, moving furniture
  • playing with Daisy
  • an evening trip to the beach
  • yummy pizza leftovers and LOST
  • engaged in a great read

Yeah, it was a really wonderful weekend. Lots of pictures and stories to come, but I can't spoil y'all with everything in one post. So how about this sweet shot of Daisy from Sunday? I could shoot hundreds of shots of her in the evening light. So glad summer is almost here!

Memorial Day

It could just be a long weekend. A long weekend where my husband is home for three days straight with us! An excuse to do some shopping or have a BBQ. A chance to sleep in and still be in my PJs at 11:00.

But I think it's supposed to mean something. I think it should include a pause. A spirit of gratitude. A spirit of remembrance.

How?

I'm planning to set my alarm for 3:00 today. I'm going to gather up my family and sit us by this computer, listen to Taps, and say a little prayer. Take a moment to appreciate the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

And then say a prayer that our nation's leaders will figure out soon how more men and women, children and grandchildren, moms and dads, won't have to make this sacrifice for a war that doesn't make sense.

What are your plans?

Daisy enjoyed meeting the birds at the pet store last week. We have got to get this kid to the zoo!
