kiddie pool

I think Daisy's Lincoln Rock highlight was the 30 minutes spent in the kiddie pool her Gran brought. This kid was totally fearless and her mama was snap-happy so there are lots of photos to share.

We put her bath ducks in the pool for her at first.

But then she discovered the joy of splashing!

Soon, more kids joined in the fun. And Daisy was definitely leading the charge.

our little red house

Most camps offer the benefit of staff housing on site. This is a big perk because it makes the small pay more liveable, gives the family a chance to see each other during the busy season, and gives the employee a short commute!

We are very thankful for the little red house that is beginning to feel more and more like home. While we didn't pick it out, don't own it, and likely won't be undertaking any major remodling projects, we think it will suit us just fine. It has quite a bit more space than our house in B'ham and we are now with a guest room and bathroom-so we hope to have visitors! (hint, hint...)

Staff House #5 is up the hill from main camp, the waterfront, and the other staff houses. At first I was a little worried about being isolated, but now I am thankful for the quiet and all the outside places to play. We have great views of barns and woods and love waking up to the birds chirping all around.

The view of our house from the driveway:

I love this tree that sits in the corner of our yard:

Come visit soon. See, the door is open for you!

ps: We do live at a ranch. The barn is just yards from us. (And summer staff cars too!)

Sammy!!!

Guess who Daisy and I got to meet today?

IMG_1231 cropped

Sam brought his mama, his Ninang Amy, and his cousin Noah to a wedding in Seattle this weekend. And lucky us, we got to have a mall date with them this afternoon. IMG_1224

After a little mixup as to which mall we were meeting at, it was wonderful to get to hold this little guy. It was a little crazier chasing after the other two. Three on three is a good number. I think Amy's twins are going to do us in! (Oh, you haven't heard the news. YUP, TWINS!)

Note: the South Hill mall does not have a kids play area. So Daisy and Noah made do on the group of riding machines.

I can't wait unitl August when I get to hold this little one again and spend more than 2 hours with his mama!

my, how time flies

This time last year, while camping at Darin's annual family reunion in Lincoln Rock, Daisy met her two beautiful cousins. The three were born just days apart.

Here we mommies are with our babies on June 22, 2007:

And this year, we all met up again.

I get a little snap-happy around babies and I can't wait to send their momma's these sweet photos.

Got lots of posts about camping and life at camp coming at you this week. So come back often!

first beach trip

At the request from a reader (hi Steve!) I'll be writing next week more about life here at camp. But since I'm gearing up right now for a little getaway, sans Darin but with Daisy, you'll just have to suffer with more baby pics for now.

I realized I never shared with you these pictures from Daisy's first trip to the beach.

We walked along the water's edge for a while with her in the pack. I can't remember ever going to a beach before where the clams would spit water up at you. It was quite surprising the first couple of times, and then became hilarious as Darin got hit a lot more than I did.

Not so sure about the idea at first:

IMG_0771

So I had to show her how to play with the sand and rocks.

And then she loved it.

baby veggie muffins

So after the post yesterday, I thought I'd share with you a veggie recipe I found that Daisy loves.

Vegetable Muffins

1C zucchini, grated
1C carrot, grated
3/4C whole wheat flour
3tsp baking powder
1C cheddar cheese, grated
1/2C applesauce
1/4C olive oil
1/2C milk

Preheat the oven to 350

Grease a muffin pan

mix the flour, baking powder, and grated vegetables with the cheese

in a seperate bowl, mix together the oil, applesauce and milk

pour the liquid mixture into flour mixture and stir until it is mixed together

using a spoon, drop the mixture into the muffin pan

bake for 20-25 mins

Now, I haven't tried them, but Daisy thinks they are "mmm...delicious"

granola humor

It is a delicate balance between trying to feed your child healthy food and maintaining a buget and a sense of sanity. I guess I also didn't realize how blessed we were in this department living in B'ham: farmer's market, Trader Joe's, produce at Haggen's. Things are a little trickier here, especially eating camp food. But I'm doing my best to get good stuff into my daughter.

Still, I think some people take it a little too far. This video cracks me up.

finding nemo

IMG_1070

We are big fans of Daisy's blanket "nemo" around here. The only problem with the blanket as attachment object is the panic that ensues when it is dropped outside the crib. Oh the tears. And the sweet cries of "mo...mo..."

This has happened already four times this week. I think we might need a tether!

IMG_1071

swing!

One of Daisy's favorite things to do is swing at the park. So when I saw a little backyard swing at Toys R Us, I thought it would make a perfect birthday present.

Now, I just need to figure out how to shoot her having fun while in the shade of the tree!

So we stopped swinging for a minute so I could take a picture in the sunshine.
